Sitting above the Derwent Valley, a World Heritage site recognised by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) for its outstanding international importance, are four idyllically situated log cabins. Each has been individually hand-scribed from Western Red Cedar tree trunks.
Each bespoke log cabin occupies a stunning and unique location nestled within the woodland. Swinney Wood Log Cabins, located in Belper, Derbyshire, redefine luxury.
Exclusively for adults and with a no-pets policy, no expense has been spared in creating these luxurious yet rustic log cabins with romance in mind.

From Dream to Reality
Our Story
In 2020, Swinney Wood Log Cabins became more than just a dream; it became a breathtaking reality. Our vision of creating a haven for guests to immerse themselves in nature and reconnect with tranquility came to life.
Building Amidst Nature’s Embrace
Obtaining planning permission was a challenging journey that took nearly three years, but with passion and perseverance, we received the green light in April 2017. We faced the terrain’s slope and the need to protect nearby tree roots, leading us to choose pile foundations. Each log cabin now sits atop twelve of these, drilled 4 meters deep and filled with concrete. The design allowed flexibility, enabling us to accommodate large tree roots without compromising our vision.
Crafting Timeless Treasures
The log cabins, SEREIN and PETRICHOR, arrived in March 2018. Hand-scribed during the winter of 2017 at an airfield in Wales, they arrived as tree trunks on a lorry. Swiftly, they took shape, fitting together without screws or bolts—nature’s harmony at its best.
Patience and Precision
It took merely four days to construct both cabins. However, our dedication to perfection extended the timeline by another eighteen months. As the logs dried out, they naturally shrank in size, releasing about six tonnes of water. We accounted for every millimeter of shrinkage, ensuring a meticulous attachment of windows, doors, stud walls, and porches to the log walls.
Today, Swinney Wood Log Cabins stands as a testament to our labour of love. These luxurious log cabins effortlessly blend into the captivating natural environment, offering you a truly unforgettable escape.

We stayed here for 3 nights in November 2024 and it was perfect! Really comfy, cosy and well equipped with lovely touches of luxury throughout. We left feeling relaxed and recharged – a perfect romantic break! Sitting in the hot tub looking out over such a beautiful view was amazing. We will definitely be back.
