Manchester Pride 2025

Manchester Pride 2025 is set to be a vibrant celebration of love, diversity, and the rich history of the LGBTQ+ community. Here’s an overview of what to expect:

A Look Back: The History of Manchester Pride

Manchester Pride has its roots in the late 1980s, beginning as fundraising events over the August Bank Holiday weekend to support HIV and AIDS causes. In 1991, the Village Charity established the festival known as Manchester Mardi Gras, raising £15,000 for these causes. The event evolved over the years, being renamed ‘Gayfest’ in 2000 and 2001, before officially becoming Manchester Pride in 2003.

What’s Happening in 2025?

This year’s Manchester Pride Festival is scheduled from August 15th to 25th, 2025, featuring a variety of events:

  • Mardi Gras (August 23-24): A new addition to the festival, Mardi Gras will take over Depot Mayfield and Freight Island, offering world-class artists, performers, DJs, and shows. This event pays homage to the festival’s origins and aims to provide an inclusive space for all attendees.

  • Gay Village Party (August 22-25): Centered in Manchester’s Gay Village, this four-day celebration includes performances, cabaret, funfair rides, a silent disco, and more. It’s a vibrant expression of community, love, and queer joy.

  • Parade (August 23): This year’s parade theme is “Love,” celebrating the strength and resilience that love brings to the LGBTQ+ community. Participants will march through the streets, showcasing acceptance and unity.

  • Candlelit Vigil (August 25): A moment of reflection to honor those we’ve lost to HIV/AIDS and to support those living with the condition. The vigil serves as a reminder of the ongoing fight for equality and the importance of community solidarity.

How to Get Involved

  • Tickets: Tickets for Mardi Gras and other events will be available soon. Keep an eye on the official Manchester Pride website for updates.

  • Volunteering: Manchester Pride offers various volunteer opportunities. Volunteering is a great way to give back to the community and be part of the festival’s success.

  • Community Involvement: Local businesses and individuals can participate in the parade or host events supporting the festival’s mission. Engaging with community initiatives amplifies the message of inclusivity and support.

Why Manchester Pride Matters

Manchester Pride is more than a festival; it’s a movement advocating for LGBTQ+ rights and visibility. The event raises funds for LGBTQ+ causes, supports community initiatives, and fosters a sense of belonging. In a time when challenges persist, Manchester Pride stands as a beacon of hope, resilience, and celebration for the LGBTQ+ community and its allies.
